Exciting News - Potter Field Upgrade !!
In October, representatives of Penrith Council and the SMSC Committee met to discuss possible improvements to Potter Field. We have been advised that as a result of the meeting, Penrith have allocated a substantial amount of funding for the required improvements.
Before the coming season, the following work will be undertaken :
- Missing fence posts (the western side of Field 1) will be replaced;
- The goal mouths are to be top dressed, so there will no longer (hopefully) be muddy goal mouths when it rains; and
- The area between car-park and fields will also be attended to, weather permitting.
And at the end of this coming season, a major upgrade will be undertaken, comprising :
- Replace the playing field surface, with levelling and turfing. The proposed project is to replace the playing field surface, incorporating recycled organic material into the growing medium, levelling and turfing.
- "The field surface is compacted and is not conducive to good turf growth nor is it capable of sustaining high levels of utilisation in the winter months"
- New floodlights will be installed on the western-side of field 1.
- "The site has floodlighting that does not currently comply with Australian Standards"
This is a great result for our club. When the fields are re-turfed at the end of this season, hopefully there will be fewer instances next year where games are cancelled on fine days due to the field being water-logged.
